About The Wild Whisk
Since childhood, Tara LeGates has warm memories of a family that loved to bake. She spent years baking purely for pleasure, always being the one to bring dessert to social events and get-togethers. After being told “You should go into business for yourself,” on more than a few occasions, she decided to follow her dream.
Tara began her studies in Classic Pastry Arts at the French Culinary Institute in New York City, where she learned classic French technique for creating everything from cookies to croquembouche. It was there, under the expert instruction of Chef Cynthia Peithman, Chef Toni Lynn Dickinson, and other highly talented Chef-Instructors, that her passion for the artistic side of pastry was ignited.
While still unsure of what career path she would follow, upon graduation Tara secured an internship with Pink Cake Box of Denville, New Jersey. Working alongside accomplished cake designer, and FCI Alum, Chef Anne Heap, and her extremely talented and artistic staff, Tara was exposed to the exciting, challenging, and FUN world of custom cake design, and spent the next couple of years practicing and expanding her skills set in this exciting craft.
After relocating to Wilmington, Delaware, Tara decided to take a break from the competitive world of custom cakes, and started developing a new Wild Whisk concept… and now she is working toward bringing that concept and vision to life in the (hopefully) near future.
