Reliving days gone by…

May 1st, 2010 by Tara

This cake was an honor for me to make, as it was for an occasion that meant so much to me, as well as son many other people.  On April 24, after many months of planning, an all-years reunion of nearly 450 former students, teachers and clergy of the now-defunct Sacred Heart School in Bloomfield, New Jersey was held.  As a proud  member of the Class of ‘88 I wanted to do something special, that reflected what Sacred Heart meant to all of us who were a part of its long, illustrious history.

I chose a simple design in maroon and grey (the school colors during my tenure there) with the school crest on the top tier.  The second tier was adorned with tiles contained words of a few of the many things we all took away from our time at SHS:  Faith, Knowledge, Strength, Friendship, & Memories, and  I included a few fun little details to remind us those days:  School books, blackboard & pencils.

Fly me to the moon…

March 29th, 2010 by Tara

I did this really fun cake for a very special little boy who loves all things to do with space exploration.  It’s a vanilla bean butter cake with chocolate buttercream filling and frosting.

Sweet and pretty things…

March 7th, 2010 by Tara

The latest creations are about as girly as you can get.

First we have a cake and cookie favors for a baby shower (baby girl “G” is due any day now).  Mom-to-be is as stylish as they come, so a couture purse diaper bag  (vanilla bean butter cake with vanilla bean buttercream filling) was the only choice.  But since she also has a special place in her heart for rubber duckies, we opted for a duckie trio (Mama, Daddy and little baby girl) of vanilla bean butter cookies with sweet baby footprint tags.

Next we had two cakes to be shared by two sweet sisters who are also best friends.  Their birthdays are very close, so the celebrations are usually combined, but we wanted to make sure they both got a bit of the spotlight for their special day.  So in the first cake–for their family celebration–we gave each girl her own half of the cake (vanilla bean butter cake with chocolate swiss meringue buttercream), in their respective favorite colors.  The second cake (chocolate butter cake with chocolate buttercream), for their party with friends, was inspired by the Children’s Book Fancy Nancy (if you’re not familiar with it, and you have a little girl, I HIGHLY recommend it), which was the theme for this very fancy afternoon.

A quick update

December 6th, 2009 by Tara

Professionally speaking, the Wild Whisk has been on a hiatus, for a number of reasons, but is looking forward to coming back full-swing in 2010.  In the meantime, here are a few cakes I did for personal events recently, that I’d like to share.

A very sweet 13…

May 17th, 2009 by Tara

I recently received a call from a girl who was turning 13 and wanted a very special cake.  She had drawn up a design she wanted me to replicate (her original computer drawing is in the lower left of the collage).   This is the result of that collaboration.

Sweet 13

It’s a chocolate fudge cake with cookies and cream filling, vanilla buttercream, and vanilla fondant, finished with 13 handmade fondant roses and accompanied by 13 pink candles, each in their own mini fondant rose holder.

The birthday girl was very happy seeing her design brought to reality, and her father tells me that it tasted as good as it looked!

Tea Party Bridal Shower

May 5th, 2009 by Tara

I’ve been a little slow to update, but more posts will be coming soon.

In the meantime, here’s a cake I did for a bridal shower in March with a tea party theme.

The cake was dark chocolate with mint oreo filling.  It was frosted in vanilla buttercream and finish with vanilla fondant, and sugarpaste decorations (including a teacup and spoon).

We also provided teacup cookie favors to match.

The maid of honor (who ordered the cake, and is one of my best customers!) had this to say:

It was amazing and so delicious…. The hit of the shower. (well besides the bride) LOL.”                                                                  –Kristi H.
